What is Grit and Why is it important?

Grit is the ability to show determination and passion when you face obstacles and challenges in life. Grit can be shown through school work, for example if you have an assignment on a topic that is unclear, if you use grit you will be able to complete the assignment and possibly form an interest. It is important because without grit, talent will be nothing and will not be enough to support you carrying through certain things. This can be implemented in anyone by encouraging them to try harder or cultivating confidence and optimism around them.

An important example of using grit is the U.S army. A college in America researched the testing that happens in the army and how they test grit and self control of cadets before their summer school. After taking their measurements, Researchers looked at the comparison of cadets candidate scores such as their SAT scores and GPA. This then showed their grit scores and self discipline score and it was grit that determined whether you got in or not. The ones with higher grit scores were 60% more likely to remain at the summer school than those with lower scores.

Grit is important to me because I’ll need grit to finish my college course and focus on my future and what I will want to do. If I do not show grit I will not achieve what I want with just intellect. So grit to me means to show determination and form an interest in what I am doing no matter the challenges and obstacles I face along the way.
